I suppose I should probably have an icon for the aquarium.

Lost count of my fish
John Shepard (radiographite@gmail.com) - Thur Aug 19, 2010 04:41:03 GMT - 1118
Have discovered baby fish in the tank - two different sizes, hinting that they are not from the same batch of eggs. They are as yet too small to tell which species they are; pretty sure they're not corys, my guess is tiger barbs. There aren't very many that I've seen, but the plant coverage in there is probably dense enough to hide more. Better still, I put a structure of plastic mesh and Java moss on the back wall of the tank a few days ago, so there could be many more behind that.

I'm trying not to get too excited that any will survive to reasonable adulthood - once they're big enough to be visible, they will probably become snacks - but at that point they will also be easier to net.

And there were obviously two sets of eggs to start with - so whoever's doing it may do it again.

More on this story as it develops.

They are tiger barbs, their stripes are visible now. I've managed to get about half a dozen collected into the breeder basket, but just because I gathered six or seven doesn't mean there are that many in the basket now.

I estimate there have been at least four batches of eggs so far, going by the sizes of the fry. (I have yet to actually see the eggs.) So the breeding pair are probably still at it - and in usual fish fashion, are eating the hatchlings before I can get to them.
